Rain Day
New Pots and a flood in the studio.
Today was a busy day as I was able to work my reclaim clay and throw a wearboard of mugs to get back in practice. I was able to make 14 mugs that will need handles in the morning. I may need to throw another ware board of mugs, about 20 bowls, and then work on some larger pieces like mixing bowls and baking dishes.
It was raining almost the whole day, and then we got a huge downpour for about an hour or more. Water came in our basement. It is very seldom that we get water in our basement, as it all depends on the water table. With the last few days of rain, the ground got quite saturated. We were able to vacuum it all up quite quickly and took out about 10 gallons of water. We have the humidifiers going in the basement now.
In today's throwing session, I decided to have fun making pots rather than get stressed and worried about them. At times around shows, I have a lot of anxiety still about getting everything done on time. It might stem from the days when I only had one =kiln and needed to plan everything right to the very hour to get all the pots fired out. Now, with three large Olympic ipdrafts, things do move along quite quickly. At times I have been done a few days early.
So even though today was a wet and rainy day it was warm out and it was a nice rain. Even if the basement did flood. Changing the negative to a positive, the floor needed mopping anyway. Hopefully, by tomorrow everything will be dry again, and I can throw and handle the pots I made this morning. After I throw tomorrow, I might need to test-fire the kilns to make sure they are in working order. At times, mud daubers like to plug up the gas lines. It can be a real headache.
If I were living yesterday a second time: I would have made a few more pots.
Things I am grateful for: The shop vac to suck up the water it worked out great!
If I get to live to be 86, I might only have: 12610 days left.

We would so love to have some rain. It's been weeks - and this is England! The temperatures have been in the 30s (centigrade: c36-96F), the fields are all brown and dry, farmers have had terrible yields with cereal crops having to harvest too early and then there are the huge forest fires. I guess this is happening in parts of the US too but the climate emergency is really hitting home. I just wish policy makers would get a grip 😏
